IMG_20140418_094913I never ate oatmeal growing up and never fed it to my kiddos either, UNTIL a friend shared this recipe with us and now it’s a staple!

Helpful Tip:

I never keep applesauce around – I keep Thrive Life Freeze-dried Applesauce. It is SOOO much easier! When I buy applesauce someone gobbles it down, or they don’t! And if it gets forgotten in the fridge then I end up with moldy applesauce. So to avoid all that I use Thrive and love that it’s just apples and no sugar. Thrive freeze-dried food can be in your pantry for months and not go bad!
I use 1/4 cup of the applesauce and then add 1/4 cup of water to the recipe. Just mix it all in together–it works just fine that way!


I’ve tried substituting the applesauce & cinnamon for mashed banana and while it tasted good–my kids preferred the applesauce and cinnamon flavor.

I’ve also left the cinnamon out and added some freeze dried strawberries and chopped walnuts–again, I thought it was pretty good but my kiddos wouldn’t eat it!

Take the basic recipe and tweak it to your liking regarding some fruit or however you like!

I tried plugging these ingredients into a website, so best I can tell, if you make 12 muffins each muffin would have: 3.5g protein, 2g fiber, 8.5g sugar and be 133 calories. You could definitely cut the sugar back, and also make sure you are using applesauce with no added sugar.

  1. 2 1/2 cups Rolled Oats
  2. 1/2 Cup sugar
  3. 1 tsp cinnamon
  4. 1 tbsp baking powder
  5. 2 eggs
  6. 1/2 cup applesauce
  7. 1 cup milk (almond or other dairy free works too!)
  8. 1 tbsp olive oil
  1. Mix dry ingredients first and then add in wet ingredients.
  2. Place mixture into muffin pan (that makes 12 muffins)
  3. Bake for 22 minutes at 350 degrees
