treatment alternativesI just received this book “Treatment Alternatives for Children” by Dr. Lawrence Rosen and Jeff Cohen.

“Your complete resource for holistic alternatives to traditional medical treatments.”

This book is a reference guide for parents that shows some alternatives to regular treatments that your doctor would prescribe. The book is written by a board-certified pediatrician that is holistically-minded. It lists about 100 common childhood illnesses alphabetically and one top natural remedy to try, along with a few alternative suggestions as well. Overall, I thought the top remedies were positive, and with the alternative suggestions, excellent advice.

I was thrilled to learn that Dr. Rosen encourages the use of essential oils for several things. There are mentions of using oils with swollen glands, stuffy nose, bronchitis, cough, croup (even mentions Young Living by name here), acne and more!

You will find a wonderful chemical-free hand sanitizer recipe on pages 93-94 using water and aloe vera gel with the oils of cinnamon, clove, rosemary, eucalyptus, and lemon.

There is a special spotlight on essential oils on pages 179-180, where they state:

“Essential oils can serve numerous purposes in a healthy lifestyle for your child.”

And lastly, on pages 292-293 you will find his top Ten Indispensable Oils: Chamomile, Cinnamon, Clove, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, and Ylang Ylang.

The only things I would personally skip are the suggestions for hypnosis, guided imagery and yoga.

Overall I think the book is an excellent resource for parents and would make a great gift for a new mom!
